× Talk abut Movies & TV here. Just tell us what you have been watching. Have hyper-academic discussions on visual semiotics. Whatever, it's all good.

I think I'm done with these movies. They're good, certainly well made. But they're very formulaic including the Marvel Motto -- "never go more than three pages without a battle."

They're all starting to look the same to me. I don't think I could tell you plot of any particular film as they all blend in my mind at this point.

They started looking the same after the first one. « Ok, I think I get the idea. Let’s mash stuff up. Then have the mashed together characters mash stuff up »

I haven’t seen another one since the first. They look really well made and excited but I just never feel like seeing them

The MCU characters and plots are drawn with pretty broad brushes, but that's their Stan Lee origins showing. For most of the MCU movies, my inner thirteen-year-old has to tell my outer 56-year-old to shut up and enjoy the ride. And for the most part, I do.

Saw it again today. My statements still stand. It’s a hell of a movie. It might work so well because the characters are pretty defined going in and the plot is (refreshingly) basic, but it packs a pretty tremendous punch.

What's the gripping scene Josh? What's the moment that caught you the second time?

I’ll tell you, but I’m warning you. It’s MAJOR spoiler territory.

Warning: Spoiler!

I was also able to really take in Brolin’s performance more. He’s really doing a killer job with the character.

I saw it last night, and I liked it.

The key for me was listening to what several of you have said or hinted at in this thread: Let go of your self, sit back, and enjoy the ride. Embrace the excitement of being a 13-year-old comic book fan again. It was kind of perfect in that regard. No more origin stories. If you don't know who someone is, too bad, we're moving along. Action scene, dialog scene, action scene, dialog scene. In any other genre, that would probably be ridiculous, but here it worked fantastically and just like a comic book. The first Avengers movie is probably better paced, acted, and scripted, but this is the superhero mash-up movie that all the others have been building to.

It's not great cinema. It won't win awards. But it was truly a fun time at the theater and worth a full-sized bucket of popcorn.

I thought the movie was a blast! I had some laughs, had fun with the characters and liked the melodrama. Is it actually deep? Who cares, I was there for three hours having fun and never thought I needed more. It's nerdy stuff, and dumb in the same way cool bipedal combat robots are. It's not that it's dumb, per se, it's that the dumb stuff is a large part of the appeal.

Warning: Spoiler!

My issue with this film is that all of those heroes on screen could have been replaced with a single light infantry company with a heavy weapons squad and the end would have been the same. Why are all these bad guys such chumps? A couple of 240's, a bunch of SAWs, and a mortar would have done the job, much less an arty call in, a B-52, or a ship loaded with tomahawks. Earth can defend itself from this shit, we don't need superheroes!

Same thing with Thor:Ragnarok, Thor:Dark World, Ultron, etc. None of these bad guys could even take a .50BMG sniper round to the head, much less all the powerful shit even a third rate military could dish out.

I guess I am wondering when they'll let Michael Bay direct a marvel film :P At least in Man of Steel we get a few licks in!

I don't think too much about the MCU, but I grind my teeth every time I see an Imperial Walker. It's not a weapon, it's a joke.
