Need Help with European Post-Punk/New Wave

As I've mentioned before, I'm one of those that is big on putting together themed game soundtracks. I think I'm going to round out my crayon rails collection this Christmas with Eurorails, so have begun to think about what I'll compile. Crayon rails run a bit long (but fun!), so I'd like around three hours of material. Here's where I need the help of fellow FATties.

I'm having some difficulty finding enough suitable tracks for Eurorails. For the other rail games, I've got the following:

Empire Builder - plenty of country and americana

Iron Dragon - Film/TV soundtracks (LotR, Hawk The Slayer, Robin of Sherwood and quirky stuff like Labyrinth, Last Unicorn, Dark Crystal, and Ladyhawke)

Lunar Rails - Daft Punk, Deltron 3030, Tangerine Dreams, some Kavinsky, etc

I'm thinking for Eurorails, I wanna go 80's post-punk/New Wave, but representing the continent as a whole. Obviously, the UK is incredibly easy, but want to stay away from that as much as possible (I'll have a few) because my Block-Mania soundtrack is loaded with UK punk/2 tone. Anyway, stuff from around the continent and bonus if it's recognizable to American listeners (not a requirement, but easier for people to get into), or pertains to geographical locations/travel. I'm thinking songs like Nena's 99 Luftballons (Germany), Falco's Vienna Calling (Austria), or A-ha's Hunting High and Low or Stay On These Roads (Norway).

So, FATties...what have you got. Multiple songs by the same artist is fine as I've got three hours to fill!

Awesome list, Jur!!

Going through these this morning, and this is exactly what I'm looking for.

Cheers!

Well duh, Kraftwerk. Not post punk, but it has that kind of cool, sleek Euro sound you are looking for. I mean, they kind of created it..."Trans Europe Express" is probably the best bet for you.

Not post punk either, but Bowie's "Station to Station" seems like a shoe-in.

Maybe some DAF...Metal Urbain...maybe some early Front 242...

Good call on the Kraftwerk and Bowie. I've dipped a little into the 70's myself with songs such as Smokie's 'Living next door to alice'.

The charm with Jur's list is that it feels exactly what I imagine hauling freight across 80's Europe while listening to the radio would sound like. A lot of it is straight pop, but I'm finding that it works maybe even better than what I was originally going for.

Unfortunately, not all of them are on Spotify...I'm at about two hours, so keep em coming!

I'm still about 20 mins short and that's with padding this playlist out with the likes of Scorpions - Winds of Change (Germany) and, gulp, Europe - The Final Countdown (but hey, Sweden!).

I'm liking the direction this list took. It definitely stands apart from my BlockMania playlist. They could have ended up very similar...almost a part I and part II.

A few more non-english songs would be great, though. France? Spain? Wadda we got? More Eurovision songs?

EDIT: I see Jur made an update to the list. There's some at the bottom I'll look into. Awesome!

Check out Hubble Bubble from Belgium. this was Plastic Bertrand of Ca Plane Pour Moi fame's first band. (That would be an excellent track for this comp too, as well as the english language version Jet Boy Jet Girl.) Their self titled album is amazing.

Whoops, didn't read all the way through Jur's list. Check out The Jook as well.
