Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in.

-Leonard Cohen

Although he was a Quebecois, I'll always associate his music with my move to NYC when I overheard "So Long Marianne" for the first time while mopping the floor at my first job there and asked my boss who the singer was. She lifted her shaved head from the change-counting machine for a moment, stared at me squarely through her thick frames and answered, telling me "you'll like his stuff... most freaks do." Then she returned to cursing out the machine and kicking it. I was sold.
