I’m not familiar with Critical Defiance, but otherwise a fantastic list. I’d add Candy and Dream Unending to the list. Undeath if you like the more traditional 90s-ish gore death.

Ooh, and Ithaca’s new album is solid. Djamila Azzouz has one of the best voices in metalcore.

Baroness was the first (and only) band to hit me like a ton of bricks as an adult in the way that bands used to hit me when I was in high school. Loooooooove that band, especially Blue and Purple.

I tend to gravitate towards doom, psychedlic and stoner stuff (despite never being one myself). Other modern metal bands that I'm big on:

It's all Alcest and Opeth right now. Mellower stuff for the holidays.

Critical Defiance is kind of 80s thrash but played at even more breakneck speeds. Like early thrash, there's some D-beat influence that gives it a punk edge.

Josh the new Candlemass record might be in your wheelhouse...it's no Epicuw Doomicus Metallicus but it's really good.

I liked Alcest but I thought some of his other projects were better (Amesouers, Mortiifera, etc.).

Some good bands mentioned but many are too slow for my tastes. I was never into doom.

I'll check out that Critical Defiance.

If you have a Quest 2 VR headset (or maybe any VR if you have steam), there is a drumming game called Ragna-rock that is pretty damn fun and has a lot of cool metal. It skews towards the goofy with bands like Alestorm and Gloryhammer but it's all pretty legit arena metal. A fair number of bands I've never heard of (seems to skew heavily towards euro I think) so I need to start hunting for albums. The conceit is that you are drumming to get your fantasy viking longship to row faster, it's surprisingly tactile with the feedback from the controllers.
