What Bands Did You Miss?
- Godspeed You! Black Emperor at the GAMH (also in SF, sold out graaaar)
You may get another shot at 'em if you're lucky: www.1119732.net/
Without a doubt on of the best (say top 3) bands I've ever seen. I was lucky enough to see them twice / unlucky enough to have only seen them twice... I live in Montreal, they played a lot, but every show was insta-sold-out.

Yeah, I saw that before. I doubt I'll get out to see them at this point. Hauling 5 hours to SF and being neck-deep in hipsters is not likely to be in the cards for me. That one really is a "should-have-been-but-not-now" gig, I think.

The last thing that I went "well, fuck I missed it" was finding out Robbie Fulks was in Northern Cal last month or so. Finding out last week was no help. Next time.
I caught him solo opening for Dave Alvin at the Birchmere a couple of years back. Entertaining as fuck, but that's a tough gig when you're being followed by Dave Alvin and the Guilty Men, even if it's one of Dave's "Quiet American Music" shows...
But you can hire him to play your kid's bat mitzvah if you want: robbiefulks.com/music/private_shows

Joy Division. Did see N.O. though but it was post Low Life so... But still.
T/G. Fucking shits only do two US cities for reunion? Please.
AC/DC w/ Bon.
Also:
Can w/ Damo or Mooney.
Maybe Captain Beefheart. I'm no expert on him but have heard most of it at one time or another.
Probably just me:
Durutti Column. Universally regarded as dry.
The Cat's Miaow. Universally unheard of, probably even in native Aus.
I've been pretty fortunate to have seen most of my "must-see's" but I'm setting my time machine for late 70's and early 80's!
Wow. I forgot about him. Heh cool.GG Allin

- Ministry, Skinny Puppy, and Godflesh in '91
That would have been an INSANE show. I caught Skinny Puppy in Boise of all places a couple of years ago. They weren't as traumatizing as I'm sure the '91 show would have been. But it was fun to see Ogre bleeding ichor through tubes and stuff while performing Warlock. And seeing(hearing?) any sort of live production by cEvin Key is always worth double the price of admission.
Where did they play in Boise? And how many people did they get?
They played at the Big Easy, I think the place is called the Knitting Factory now. I was surprised and delighted that the scenester kids in Boise have no idea who Skinny Puppy is. My sisters and I were probably the youngest people there. There was a good 200-300 people there, but all well behaved. If there had been pogoing dumbasses ruining my time I probably wouldn't have kept my cool.
When I began listening to Skinny Puppy they had just broken up and were talking mad shit about each other. I didn't think I would ever get to see them live. During my angsty teen years I wore out multiple Skinny Puppy tapes (yes audio tapes, for some reason I love that format, and I clung to it for an unhealthy amount of time, plus there was this cool place in downtown Nampa that had old tapes of some badass bands on the cheap). Whoa, sorry to get so off topic.

I missed Wire's last European tour one year ago, but none of them died yet.

That's the joint I saw Spiritualized at, but the name was escaping me. "Knitting Factory" has been buying up and rebranding concert halls all over the country.

Yep, I figure if I've ever got a few thousand bucks with nowhere to go I'd remedy the "not having seen Fulks" real easily. I dunno if he was doing that back when I got married (probably not), but call that another missed opportunity. Been a fan of his ever since I saw an Austin City Limits with him and Junior Brown (another one on the bucket list.)

PJ Harvey and Tom Waits in 2005, they came to Vancouver within a month of each other (I was working at a shitty paying job)

The Smiths in 1986 in Toronto. I wasn't into them long enough at that time to realize what I was missing.
Summer 1986, I had tickets to the Smiths near Boston. That summer I was working construction and the day of the concert about 100 lb of plaster and drywall fell on head and chunk of it ended up in my eye so I couldn't see. But I made it do show. I didn't see the Smiths because my eyes were closed the whole time but I heard the show. Waited until the next day to see the doctor who flushed the eye to get the fraking drywall out of my eye. Good show.
