Kids Books was created by OldHippy
I'm not talking Roald Dahl and that stuff I'm talking really young. My kids only 10 months right now so he's far too young for most of this stuff. The books I read to him right now are my old books, The Giant Jam Sandwhich is one of my favorites, Herbert Lost His Hum... but I'm looking for new authors because right now I'm mostly just reading him what I grew up with so the books are old and if he touches them they will probably disintigrate.

I bought him some new ones, the stuff Margert Atwood has been putting out lately are good but the best guy I found so far is Oliver Jeffers. I especially love "The Incredible Book Eating Boy" and "Way Back Home"... both are good enough that I could read them even if I didn't have a kid. Especially the book eating boy one. Just an awesome book and right up there with anything I've ever read in the childrens book category. Now plenty of you have been through all that I'm going through so what are some recomendations for me? If you know about Jeffers already then you might have a good idea as to my taste.

Here's a link to some stuff about him I found one google search away.

Our 18-month old has been book-nutty since birth. Early favorites were Eric Carle (Brown Bear Brown Bear & the Hungry Caterpillar), Maurice Sendak (Night Kitchen & Wild Things), Margaret Wise Brown (Good Night Moon & Runaway Bunny) and Dr. Seuss (specifically Green Eggs and Ham; he loved/loves a lot of Seuss books, but early on he wanted to hear that book multiple times a day).

pop-up books like Little Monsters and Dinnertime were great when my kid was that age - pretty fragile though so be prepared to rebuy if necessary.
if your kid is into yo gabba gabba there's a few available - we liked gabba ball, good night gabbaland, sleep and dream of happy things.

Remarkable Farkle McBride

Marsupial Sue

The Monster At The End Of This Book.

If you don't have those three, you need to hang up your daddy hat until you do.

Our kids loved the Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler books: The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom, The Snail & The Whale, Charlie Cook's Favourite Book etc. They're written in doggerel, and vividly illustrated - and went down a real treat.

Sheep in a Jeep . Maybe it's just my sense of humor, but every time I'd read this book I'd start laughing so hard I'd barely be able to get the words out.

You'd probably like Stinky Cheese Man , but probably not until he's older.

Pat the Beastie Is really fun, and a break from Pat the Bunny which I assume you must have.

We went through a major Curious George phase around 18 -24 months. I know this because The Spawn had a Curious George themed birthday party.

The Spawn really liked poetry and rhyme. I think most kids do. Stuff like Sendak' I Saw Esau, Chicken Soup and Rice and Shel Silverstein At the End of the Sidewalk.

The Splat the Cat series has been a winner for our kids (3 & 18m) but that may be also due to having actual cats in our house. Cats which have both been renamed "Splat".
