Holy fucking shit. That's about all I got right now. The writing is fantastic, the art is great, and I can't believe I didn't get on this earlier. One thing I hate about graphic novels and comics is that so many will hit you with three pages of "POW" "BAM" "SMASH". Like, yeah I get it, they fight. The Batman books don't do that, at least not yet from what I see. I mean, Bruce Wayne's speech in #1 was great! And Wayne tower blowing up at the 13th floor with Batman inside? Epic! That's all I have to say for now. I've got reading to do.

NOOB.
Cloudy just entered 1986 in the comics world. :-p
But yeah, this is a GREAT Batman series. Scott Snyder is one of my favorite comics writers today, and this is a great example of his talent at doing these really gothic-influenced modern stories. The Court of Owls is awesome, one of Batman's greatest- and most dangerous- foes in years.
I'm up to issue 10, it gets REALLY freaking good.

Yeah, I'm not surprised...I think we'll see a lot of the Court for a while.
There's some really cool stuff about him later on in the storyline.

I haven't tried Snyder's 52 work yet, either Batman or Swamp Thing. I read the first two trades of American Vampire and found it a little overrated. Not at all bad, just somewhat less than the fantastic level that I expected from online comments about it.

Just finished #3. Again, FANTASTIC. I always thought Joker killed his parents though, but that's probably me just being a n00b. Unless Joker was a member of the Court before he got all fucked up? I guess we'll see. Don't spoil anything! I also read #12 since it starts a new story. Great stuff there as well.
I rate this so high as to collect the comics for collectibilities sake, then buy the hardback trade so my son can read the stories when he gets older without having to muck up my comics in mint condition, lol.

Usually it's Joe Chill, random street thug...most people assume that Joker killed his folks from the Tim Burton Batman movie.
If you like those books, you should also take a look at Scott Snyder's Detective Comics run- it's just as good- issues 871-875, I believe they're all collected in a trade called Black Mirror.
It is a slightly different Batman though- it's Dick Grayson with Damian Wayne as Robin following some other events including the apparent death of Bruce Wayne and the appearance of Wayne as his son with Talia Al Ghul.

Yeah, it goes into some interesting places...one of the main plotlines is about this underground auction house that sells artifacts and belongings of supervillains...like the crowbar Joker killed Jason Todd with.
