Comics like Berserk or Lone Wolf and Cub?

I've been reading Berserk, as apparently it was a huge design influence on Dark Souls, and holy shit. The way it mixes ultraviolence with literary quality is pretty fucking outstanding, and the grim fantasy setting just amplifies it. Lone Wolf and Cub had a similar impact on me years ago.

What are other comics (including Western obv.) that have the same kind of feel?

I'm not sure about your question, but several years ago I saw the Berserk anime... There's some messed up stuff in there.

First thing that comes to mind is Frank Miller's Elektra mini-series. Oh! Also The Shadow by Howard Chaykin. That was really great.

There is definitely some gross/repugnant shit but it also isn't fetishized.
