How did I miss this?

Reprints starting in January. Hopefully they'll give it the ol' Omnibus treatment.

I jumped in at the wrong point of the series, at the wrong point in my life. I was uptight young guy going through a rough patch of life, and uptight that I hadn't had a girlfriend since college. I sit down to read this critically-praised comic by a creative team that impressed me on Swamp Thing. The issue meandered along at sluggish pace until OH HELL NO homosexual rape scene!!! I just wasn't ready to deal with that topic at that time.

What's scary is that Steve just knew...

Marvel rolling out Miracleman reprints starting January '14. The Alan Moore ones. Then the Neil Gaiman ones. New Miracleman book in 2015, but who cares.

I could see your link from the main forum page, though not in your post.

If you like Alan Moore, then yes you should care, if not then fugeddaboutit, there are better Alan Moore comics to start with. I'm curious to reread it. I have mixed feelings when remembering the series, but it's been so long. Certainly it's ground zero for ultraviolent superheroes, as well as ground zero for the very common practice of taking an old, innocent superhero, and then rethinking him from the ground up in a more edgy and adult way, as Alan Moore has done many a time (but this was the first!). Also, nausea-inducing horror imagery courtesy of the great John Totleben of Swamp Thing fame. In my memory I remember it being really excessive about the whole "superheroes, but this time really DARK and TWISTED!" thing and edgy for the sake of being edgy, but I do love Alan Moore and it has been a really long time. I'm certainly buying the collection when it's eventually released. Hoping the relettering and coloring is ok.

Unfortunately, I think a lot of the impact will be lost. Miracleman was ahead of its time, but since then the path it forged has become a 12-lane highway with strip malls and Starbucks lining each side. Even Moore has returned to this well several times, and nowadays you have hacks like Mark Millar doing this sort of thing one the regular, with the effect being largely eye-rolling. It will be nice for the fans to finally have nice new editions of this work and for it to actually be available for those who want it, but on the whole I think it'll be like looking at "Nude Descending a Staircase" or "The Rite of Spring" now, all people wonder how the fuck something so currently unimpressive caused such a ruckus in its day.

In what may be a first for me (hating e.g. the new Simonson Thor coloring), I think the new coloring is mostly better than the original coloring, even though they, as sadly usual for recolorings, made the color more realistic and less impressionistic; I think that actually works fine here:

mistahphil.tumblr.com/post/69617657544/m...omparisons-from-left

And the new lettering THANK GOD doesn't look like computer lettering.
