The idea he has been silently fighting this for the past years during these big roles is awe inspiring.

RIP.

If you want to cry your eyes out like I did look up the SiriusXM interview where he talks about the young fans with cancer writing him that they were trying to hang on till Black Panther was released. Or his performance of the first chapter of the Fredrick Douglass memoir.

The heartbreak is almost unbearable- he was a tremendous actor of conscience and integrity. He understood the weight of his roles- James Brown, Thurgood Marshall, Jackie Robinson, T’Challa- he portrayed Black Excellence and was Black Excellence. That he gave us so much while fighting to live is just astonishing. What a legend.

One of my all time favorite moviegoing moments was in Endgame when he comes out of the portal and gives Cap that “we got you” nod. The whole theater just erupted in applause and cheers. What a hero.

I'm gutted. A couple of people close to me have managed to survive cancer in recent years, and a couple of other lost, so I know that's a tough fight. For Chadwick Boseman to work on four of the top 25-grossing movies of all time while enduring cancer is beyond impressive. I freely admit that I only know him from the MCU movies, but he did a great job portraying the Black Panther. I've been a BP fan since the early '70s, so I know that T'Challa is supposed to be a calm, dignified, cerebral leader. Those are fine qualities, but not easy to translate to big Hollywood action movies, and yet Boseman pulled it off, again and again. It's been just months since I did a full re-watch of all the MCU movies, but Black Panther stood out as one of the best. Watching it again at some point will be a bit eerie, as there is a scene where the Black Panther meets with his father in the afterlife.
