I think part of the reason there's so little talking is that the turns are very short. I've noticed the same phenomenon in Imperial Settlers.

So far I've only listened to this one and Thebes, but I like them.
Maybe it's just the episodes I've listened too, but the end is funny to me. Paraphrasing here: "Stone cold classic. I'm never trading it away. Solid 7."

We have plenty of chatter in Imperial Settlers, there is so much going on on the table that we, at the very least, are narrating our turns. Turns are very quick, but they can be easily messed up and can sometimes impact other players at the table.
I think the issue with Splendor, is there is almost no impact to other players (other than taking a card they might want) and the opportunity for mistakes is super low.
Honestly, I don't know - there is just something about Splendor that makes it a very quite game.

I sponsor the game club in the high school I work at and Splendor is a staple year after year. Kids like it well enough and after a couple plays they can teach new people. Unfortunately I havent gotten any better at Splendor which is probably good, they can still beat me.
