Anti-Barnes Gaming was created by SuperWeeks TNT
I have so many games in my collection it is often stressful to select which games to play for game night. The way I usually solve this problem is to go with themes. For example, I might go with with western themed games for a while or horror games. But for my next series of game nights I have decided to go with games Michael Barnes hates. For my list of Anti Barnes games I went to BGG and selected all the games I own that Barnes rated a 1 or a 2. Here is my list of games for my next few game nights. I will follow up with a report of the accuracy of the Barnes rating.

1. Blood Feud in New York
2. Fluxx
3. Illuninati
4. Pirates of the Spanish Main
5. Ticket to Ride
6. BANG!
7. Beowulf the Legend
8. LOUIS XIV
9. Transamerica
10. TV Wars
11. Vegas Showdown

Barnes dissed TV Wars? That is actually kind of a great game. The weird, crazy AH period that gave us the Hamblin games. Kind of Euro, but with a theme and some dice-based aggression.

Beowulf isn't bad, nor is TTR, nor is Transamerica. That's just his total Euro backlash period. I might even go on the record as actually liking Transamerica with the tiny Vexation expansion. Just enough additional thought required to make it a game, but still incredibly fast.

Heh, you are in for it my friend. That is a SHITTY list of games right there.

Why not Warriors (with the Dragon Horde expansion)? That's one of the worst games I've ever played.

You may also want to check out Monster Mayhem, I don't know if I rated that a 1 or 2 over there but I should have.

Transamerica sucks, period. Doesn't have anything to do with it being a Euro. The game is almost non-existent. It's an activity for children, and for that purpose it's fine.

TV Wars is old fashioned and clunky in all the wrong ways.

Beowulf is Knizia at his wheels-spinning worst. Probably not as bad as Palazzo though.

Also, you really should punish yourself further with Horus Heresy, which is one of the worst games released in the last ten years. Also, Goa, Australia, Thurn & Taxis.

I sold GOA and made an excellent profit!

I just selected the games you rated low that I actually owned.

I agree with Branham on TV Wars, especially since the game lampoons the shows from my youth and TV was still the BIG networks, CBS, ABC, NBS, and PBS hahaha

I side more with Chris Farrell on Beowulf and rate the game high. Takes a few plays to see the depth and have that lightbulb moment but the problem the game has is getting it to the table enough for other people to see that too!

Crossroads at Darklion Pass?

A self-published game where the designer is first on the list at rating the game a "10" on BGG?

I know nothing of this game but all signs point to disaster!

Wow. Nevermind that being an Anti-Barnes list, that's a legitimate anti-fun list. Fuck all those games with a railroad spike wrapped in barbed wire.

Just summarizing my what my experiences playing those games were like.

Though Thurn and Taxis, Runebound, Android, and Caylus would fit the bill as well.

Thought it was more vicious, but now that I've read it again, it's actually not as bad as it should've been. (<--Edit) The line in there about the look of the board was MAJORLY toned down from "If Dr. Teeth and Rainbow Brite had a lovechild and it was stillborn, this game board would be the autopsy photo."

I also want to add "Age of Gods" and "Senji" to my play list. I don't think Barnes gave these a numbered rating but I know he didn't like them but recently I came across a very positive 5 star review for "Age of Gods" and "Senji" just looks cool but I can't quite wrap my head around the rules. They are not written very well, especially the diplomatic rules.

I own both of these games but they have never made it to the table. We all have these games right? I call them "Shelf Toads"

I like Vegas Showdown. TTR is enjoyable enough once in a while, especially the Swiss map.
