Is there an ideal photo size, dimensions or resolution to be displayed on the front page? When I write up Five Second Reviews I never know what kind of picture to use for the article and I want to use something that shows up really nice on the front page (visuals are everything!). Just curious what kind of photo specifications are ideal for Five Second Reviews regarding front page viewing.

Regarding what you *upload* it doesn't matters. You can always set the size of the image when including it in the article.
The maximum page width of an article is a bit over 800px. I always display my cartoons at 800px so that they almost fill the full width of the page.
Anything around 400px should be big enough for an article though, so pick a width between 400px and 800px.
The image gets automatically resized for the frontpage, so only the width:height ratio matters here, which you can only affect by cropping the photo. I don't know what aspect ration works best, but try 4:3.

First, I would like to say thank you for contributing your reviews to the site and for uploading your photos. When you upload photos, the site automatically creates copies of them in the several sizes required to display nicely in various places on the site. Therefore, the most important size you should consider is the max file size of 200 KB. Preferably the file size for photos should be under 100 KB.
The front page image for the 5 second reviews is smaller than the image for the featured article, because when I first set up that section, Repoman wasn't using photos, and the reviews were short enough that all the text fit on the front page. Now that that section has evolved, I really should reconfigure the front page to make that photo bigger. I'm just up to eyeballs trying to get our house rebuilt, and haven't been able to give the site the attention it needs.

Thank you both for the answers. Uba, no rush at all for this stuff. Rebuilding a house sounds more important than me making sure Jennifer Lawrence's photo is big enough to convey her cuteness.
I think our kraut friend is right that the aspect ratio is likely what is making my images look so small. I know nothing of imaging so I'll try to see how I can try to score some 4:3 images between 400 and 800px and for file sizes under 100KB.
i spend a stupid amount of time trying to grab 1-4 great images for the movie I'm reviewing, it would be awesome if it shows up on the front page in a nice way to draw attention to the article.

..ok I just submitted a new review with a bunch of 400:300 pics. I'll see how this ends up looking.
