In the past few days Sony sold their gaming division, Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) to a holdings company called Columbus Nova. This announcement was then followed layoffs including the games head programmer and their only level designer. Perhaps because his friends had left or perhaps because it’s always better to leave a ship before it sinks the design team’s commander in chief Matt Higby has resigned. It appears then that the writing perhaps long on the wall is now also on the door, ceiling and any other surface that comes to mind. Planet Side 2 is dying.

This game simply fails to evoke the intended dynamic. Instead of big epic battles, you usually only have 1 side well prepared, parading out in force and slaughtering stragglers. The Battlefield games aren't persistent, but at least they achieve the epic battle feeling.

WOW. That's a big deal. Anyhow, Battlefield 3 and 4 are the best-in-class for this sort of thing.

Nutty---weren't they about to introduce it to PS4?

I think this is still on the cards as there the closed beta is still in progress but i suspect it will be more of a sell it and then rinse their hands of it approach.

I@ Sev, i found it did achieve that dynamic but it really required you to join one of the games outfits.

That's too bad. I loved Planet Side 1 before they introduced the caverns or whatever they were called. I belonged to decent group and while it didn't happen every time I played, the times where we as an organized force took on another well established guild in tactical and strategic combat were the best, bar none, MMO experiences I ever had.

I was usually the Galaxy Transport Driver "The time to jump is NOW NOW NOW" and then suited up for anti-aircraft defense.

I always meant to check out Planet Side 2 but never got around to it. Should of tried sooner.

Probably. I found it's not reliable enough. Way too much downtime, but that's probably the nature of games with persistent world. Not sure if it has anything to do with me being in South East Asia or not (timezone difference).

server and timing are significant. Planetside only really works when a server is 60% full or more (which is why i criticise their lack of accessibility). On friday nights in the euro zone servers it is possible to play for 3 or 4 hours with next to zero down time but most of the time you do have to hunt for a fight a little.
