X-Wing Wave 8 Review

When I first started playing X-Wing, I made a vow. That vow was to never own or run a ship that wasn't featured in the original trilogy. Vows are made to be broken, of course, and tempted by interesting builds and special offers, I broke this one a long time ago. What's perhaps more interesting is how much Wave 8 made me enjoy breaking it.

One thing I love about adding the Rebels stuff that you pointed out is the more vibrant color palette. These models look good, and the paint does too.

We haven't got to the point in the series yet when the Ghost's nemesis shows up in the form of the Imperial Inquisitor.

Slightly spoilerish, but 2 seasons in and I don't really remember seeing the inquisitors fly their ships in combat situations. Now it's a different matter for a certain upcoming Wave 9 ship, however.

Bumping this as a generic x-wing thread---folks with kids, what is your take on youngest age to play this game with a child? Like, if you take the upgrades, etc, out of it and play pretty raw base with a core ship or two? I might teach it to my brother (for my nephew who's into Star Wars) and give him a copy.

My daughter is 3 so my experience is limited, but I'd say a 6 year old may be able to handle just maneuvers and simple strategy.

Cool, my nephew is six. I may wait until his next birthday.

Perhaps more interesting, do you get the traditional base or the Force Awakens base set. I bet my nephew would be more into the force awakens!

My boy is 6 and he handles it fine without upgrade cards/limited action tokens. The starter set is actually a good setup for a small child- give them Luke, dad takes the two TIEs.

When talking about which base set to get, ignore pretty much everything and go with whatever characters interest you more. Unfortunately the only noteworthy people in the Force Awakens set are Poe Dameron and BB-8.

Luke and R2 are in the original base set.

If someone was playing seriously (not competitively, but just planning on buying a lot of X-Wing), one of each core set is the way to go.
