I recommend the faster leveling variant in the back of the rulebook.

Which edition is that as I couldn't see it in the 2E pdf manual ?
And I read some people advising to ignore PvP duels (or combat) ?

2E. Don't know about the pdf but its on the last page in printed called Shorter Runebound. Characters level up faster so they can fight the bigger stuff sooner.
PvP isn't usually worth it. Game is kind of a race to kill the dragonlord first so you're better off focusing on encounters for XP/leveling.

I have the 2nd Ed & a few of the card expansions but
but never could get into the Terrinoth Game world.
The only part of Runebound I still play is the Midnight Expansion which I find a more interesting setting than
vanilla Terrinoth.
