I fell asleep but the songs are quite fun and really help lift this movie.

Did you seriously put up a review of a movie you fell asleep through and didn't see? What's next a game reviewer posting about a game he's never played?

nono, i only slept like 15-20 minutes max. i just nodded off at the beginning cuz it was a hot day and the theatre was air conditionned. I watched almost all of it and i didn't feel lost at all when I awoke. Which says a lot.

thanks for reading!

My kids are big fans of Teen Titans Go!, and if I'm honest I am as well. There is something vaguely rebellious about a series that doesn't just play superheroes with a light touch, but actively seeks to make it as silly as possible. It's kind of a tonic to the age of superheroes in that sense.

Anyway, we went and saw this and we enjoyed it. There's this thing where shows that get made into movies sometimes increase the emotional stakes to suit a longer run time. This was the case in the Simpsons movie, which was more emotional than the show had been in years at that point. This does a little of that too, but it's kind of a weird fit. Normally any kind of emotional beat would be played for cheap laughs, but here it's taken just a little seriously, which feels a little off-key. I also wish it had focused more on the whole ensemble than just Robin, for whatever that's worth.

But we did enjoy it quite a bit. It was goofy and had a lot of fart jokes, but I live with two elementary-age boys, so my life is all fart jokes. The guest voices were especially fun. I like Nicholas Cage as Superman, which is some next-tier nerd bait.
