The first "hobby" board game I bought - I was repping for Decipher and running LOTR and WARS tourneys - Catan was all the rage, but I was looking for something to play with my kids - so the store owner that I was running tourneys in shows me Carcassonne. The 16 year old and the 9 year old loved it. So the expansions went home with me whenever there was a new one. A while later a copy of Catan came home and turned into Catan night with friends. Puerto Rico was the 3rd purchase and Ticket to Ride was the 4th. Dominion Big Box came the next Christmas. And then we didn't buy games for like 5 years and besides a sad old copy Scrabble and Boggle that was our games shelf.
