That game seemed like a limited run deal anyway. Did they ever grow out of the 2000s show ships? So that's what, 2-3 ship types per side? I did a quick skim of their website and it doesn't even look like they had classic cylon ships. So unless there is some EU stuff out there where could the IP go?

Who says it has to go anywhere?

Far back in the sands of time there was a fighter combat game called The Last Starfighter Combat Game.

It had like three ships and two scenarios in total.

My friends and I played the heck out of it and never got bored.

Actually, thinking of this makes me want to go hunt it down.

Well, the company that decided not to renew the IP apparently. If your business model is selling minis and you make a game that only requires a few minis, seems likely that it will be a short run.

As it stands Ares isn’t making schedule on its other minis including ones that sell out in weeks. So short of the license becoming a screamer title it’s in the way of existing business. They took their shot and it didn’t succeed well enough. As it stands they sold out, so maybe NBC Universal just asked too much the second time and they couldn’t make book at the price.

From my perspective, i.e., the end-user, if there’s enough game there’s enough game. The gotta-catch-em-all thing just doesn’t matter to me.

Interestingly, Ares mentioned that other companies also had their licenses dropped at the same time, such as Moebius models.
