Huh? I remember when Die Macher was the #1 game on BGG. It was like to have any gamer cred there you had to have played it and loved it.

I'd rather die than play Die Macher.

I hope someone at my club gets it so I can play it.

I'm not getting into a kickstarter of it, though. ALso, 69$ plus shipping is fairly expensive.

I would love to try it just like how I tried TI4 to knock off my board gaming bucket list.

I wouldn't go so far as to say "love", but I think it's a pretty good game. It has the rep of being crazy complicated, but it's more like a bajillion simple steps, a'la Civilization. It puts you on the hook of deciding which elections you can win, and which you have to blow off.

When you see it, you get the impression that it's a zero-luck cube pusher, but in actuality there's enough card draws in the game to completely hose you.

I have two copies, the German Hans im Gluck one, and the Valley Games one. I bought the Valley Games one because I was tired of trying to tease a rule interpretation out of three translations. Or I was high the day I ordered it. I bumped into a demo in the dealers' room at Origins and told the guy in the booth that I really like the game, but I didn't feel compelled to own a third copy.

Die Macher is really cool. I'm super tempted by this but I've tried to clamp down on these sorts of purchases and I already have Valley Games version.

I’ve owned it twice and have never played it. I set it up to solo once but didn’t get anywhere with it.

Yeah, this is a cool game. I definitely won't be buying it, because it would literally never be played. But definitely worth it for people who can get it played.

I'm wondering if it's been changed to reflect current German politics. Things have changed a bit.

The gentleman at Origins mentioned that they had changed the parties to be more like the parties today. What that means, I don't know. No Communists?

I got it back in my dewy-eyed “OMG Eurogames!” phase. I set it up, looked at stuff with a tomato and a phone on it, then said “screw this” and traded it for Caylus. Less Ameritrash cred, but at least I played it a bunch of times before moving on.

It has this weird passive aggressive rep but it's actually quite confrontational.

What I remember of it is that I later compared it to playing four games of El Grande in a row, except less fun than that would be. I can't say I wouldn't give it another try, though. I'm not backing it.
