I have spent more than I care to admit buying Magical Athlete copies as gifts for people who otherwise don't play games and loved my copy.

Every single group I've introduced Magical Athlete to has loved it. Literally 100%. Ergo it's the best game. That's math.

Generally speaking people find their favorites. My wife loves to be the crab in the bucket, and her absolute favorite is the Troll for some reason. I like to try high variance bullshit that barely works. A lot of people go for the Amazon or Merchant and quickly realize that they are guaranteed absolutely nothing.

That's my favorite thing about MA. It's never fair. Magical Athlete forever.

Nice writeup. I keep thinking I should revisit Lost Cities, as neither my wife nor I cared much for it back in the day.

Manila, OTOH, I really loved...at first. But then it felt very samey and limited, and all I could think of when playing it was how I wanted it to have a few more options.
