A Look at Kemet's Revised 1.5 Ruleset

First, the cosmetic stuff. The power tiles were given name...

The designers of Kemet decided that they’d inject some life (or, at least, undeath) into one of the best DoaM games of all time by making some small revisions to the rules. Wade and I decided to take a look at the changes and speculate on what the designers’ intent was and what the implications may be for future plays.

(Links to new rules and player aids can be found at the bottom of this article.)

Thanks for covering this, it's easy to overlook changes like this mechanically.

I've played a lot of Kemet and have been watching the rules changes too. I like all of the changes except I super HATE the changes to DI cards. I think the DI system as is works and is unambiguous whereas allowing players to play a day card at any time either before or after any player's turn will slow the game down and playing the recruit card during a battle can negate the all out damage strategy. Worst of all I think the new DI rules will add more ambiguity to the game, and thats the last thing I want with Kemet. On the other hand I'm good with removing the Veto card and the escape card because they almost always negate one full action and with an action economy this tight losing one of my two movements to a random card draw hurts super bad.

I still haven't played with the changes so maybe I'm all wrong here. Not sure I want to play with the DI changes though, I'll likely leave it up to the table but my vote is a strong no.

Great points Scott. I still need to play with the new rules to see how it all works out but I definitely can see the basis for your concerns

I think I will end up treating these like "modules" I'll add in the rules and, if I like the originals better, I'll just remove the ones I don't care for.
