I've always wondered why superhero stuff doesn't seem to translate to written media very well. I think it is the absurdity of the names. Does Batman think of himself as "Batman" or "Bruce Wayne"? What do others think in their heads? Wild Cards shows that it CAN be done, and done well, but for whatever reason DC and Marvel have not been able to crack that nut.
