I’d been looking forward to this scenario from the moment...

This article will look at an individual scenario of Arkham Horror: The Card Game. These will be my impressions after playing through the scenario and will be focusing on the mechanics and how those reinforce the story elements. These articles will contain extensive spoilers and assume a familiarity with the terms and mechanics of the game. Please do not read on if you have not played the scenario in the title yet.

In addition this breakdown will cover some of the elements from previous scenarios especially A Phantom of Truth.

I can’t disagree with anything you’ve said here. I think it’s a top scenario. Just have an anecdote I’d like to share. This wasn’t always meant as a dry run for the ‘explore’ mechanic in Forgotten Age. The designer was trying to find a map of the catacombs to arrange the locations. When he finally realized they had never been successfully mapped, he leaned into it to make every game something new. Kind of surprising as scenarios like Essex County Express and Carnevale began with ideas on location arrangement.

We got our asses kicked on this one. I'll be going into the next one with only 4 hit points. I don't think my investigator is going to live to the end of this campaign.

That's a lot of physical trauma. One run I did with Calvin he had that much but Calvin loves the pain. The earlier campaigns definitely were a bit more pedestrian with the scenario setups, but they really started to innovate from Path to Carcosa on the way.
