First of all, let's make it clear that we're talking...

You had received a mysterious invitation to the old mansion on top of the hill, which had lain empty for decades - if not centuries. You were about to throw the letter in the bin, along with the junk mail, when you hesitated. It could be interesting to see who else would turn up. After all, there was this old story linking your ancestors to a Betrayal at House on the Hill: 3rd Edition by Dave Chalker, Banana Chan, Noah Cohen, Bruce Glassco, Brian Neff, Will Sobel and Jabari Weathers from Avalon Hill.

Surprised you only gave it a 3 after such an upbeat review where you obviously had fun. I've had it since the mid noughties but it doesn't get out that often as it needs the right people (usually non-euro gamers) and as close to six players as you can get, so both those reasons have limited it hitting the table recently (it's suffered the same fate as my BSG bundle).
As well as being great fun it is a pretty clever game with the base game mechanics , how the components interact with each other, and the 'dual stories' from the two different perspectives for each haunt. There is a bit of unbalance in a few of the haunts but, hey, that just gives a bit more challenge and a big afterglow if you pull the win off.
I've also got Betrayal Legacy (does what it says) but I have been unable to find 3-4 other people to commit to playing through the 15 game campaign so have chosen not to ruin it by starting it and having it stop from people dropping out (as my Risk Legacy was).
Summing up - it is a great light/mid-weight game that provides a fun and social evening of gaming, probably a good choice for a social night with non-gamers.
