Cool! It's been years since I moved my copy on, so it will be fun to revisit it through your article. And I am definitely one of those who consider Gates of Arkham essential.

The main reason I never got into Elder Sign was there was just so much of it. I know my completionist tendencies, so I just never started with it. Secondly, I have Doctor Who Time of the Daleks which is so similar only with a property I dig a bit more.

There's definitely a lot to explore, but in terms of number of expansions, it's actually on the low end for a Fantasy Flight production: Unseen Forces, Gates of Arkham, Grave Consequences (which is a mini flavor expansion that is wholly unnecessary, even for completionists like you and me), and the three Omens: Deep, Ice, and Pharaoh. There are a few promo cards that FFG gave away at their various events for GOOs and Investigators, but people are hawking those for $100 a card and it's just not worth it so I don't worry about them. The whole package seems roughly similar to having everything for King of Tokyo? But, yeah, with a game that's driven by mechanisms like most dice rollers, I can understand if you'd rather stay with an IP that's more appealing.

Ha! Just my type of games, I guess? I played a LOT of GW, so my dice awareness is pretty high. But you're not alone. Those percentages I cited came from an answer I gave to someone on a BGG thread who had mentioned the same thing: They'd played repeatedly and just gotten slaughtered.

They always shelf it with Arkham Horror, so it always looks like there is a shit ton of it.
