Machi Koro Legacy is an all new 10-game campaign with hidden objectives and an amazing narrative arc set in the world of the Machi Koro city building card game. Players are still rolling dice, building landmarks and collecting income, but hidden changes unlock deviation in the way things proceed.

I like Machi Koro! I have not a single time thought “this game needs a legacy campaign!”

Fish on a bike here, folks. Fish on a bike.

To borrow Andrew’s phrase, this has me rolling my eyes so hard I just caught a glimpse of the longitudinal fissure in my brain.

Not much could strike more fear into me than committing to 10 games of Machi Koro. It's legacy is already with me and that is the desire never to play it again.

I said the title of this game to my wife and she said, "oooo." We played Season 1 and are halfway through Season 2 of Pandemic 2p. We like Machi Koro all right and we can play it with the 8 y.o.

There’s a really interesting article about how they came up with this concept, and I have to tell you, it’s way more in depth than I ever imagined:

The top 2 games on BGG are still legacy style games, and so is #11. I think it'll be awhile before the well is dry. I didn't think that Pandemic needed the legacy treatment, because my point of reference was Risk, where it took a really long game into a cool campaign with many bite-sized chunks. Since Pandemic was already short, I didn't see the point, but I ended up really liking it.

What fucks me up more than anything is that Rob Daviau is literally making everyone forget how clever he is while simultaneously cleverly trolling the whole hobby by taking any possible permutations of game and making a shitload of money slapping Legacy on the front.

This guy was a Heroscape designer. This shit is so beneath him. It’s like Einstein creating special relativity and then quitting physics to sell football branded garbage cans.

Rob is best as a collaborator. Heroscape would not have existed without Craig Van Ness- his input on the terrain and everything else was the most valuable piece of the puzzle. I think Rob has found his niche as the "legacy" guy; I look forward to Betrayal Legacy if nothing else. Seems tailor made for him since writing the flavor on those cards was one of his earlier jobs at Hasborg. I think taking lighter games and giving them long term implications for your choices is a good way to use these kinds of campaign systems. If the game is too complicated, it bogs down. I could see MKL being decent. Is it in the wheelhouse of this site? Nope. Will it do better than SeaFall? Most likely.

I'm a big fan of Rob's and have listened to a lot of the podcast interviews in the past. Betrayal is probably closest to the game that originally spawned the idea, Clue(do). "Why do they keep inviting Colonel Mustard? He always kills someone."

I know it sounds silly, but I think that a Monopoly Legacy that morphs into some kind of Netrunner game where you control both corps and hackers would be killer.

I'm not happy about Machi Koro Legacy even existing, but I understand it. This hobby doesn't pay well, so if somebody manages to stumble onto a steady revenue stream or a big payday, they are going to keep working it as long as possible. This is what happened to Steve Jackson, who was once considered a top game designer and now just churns out Munchkin expansions and plush Cthulhu dolls.
