Ha! That print and play card is some master-level polite passive aggression.

Sadly, I think it was cancelled due to poor performance rather than fear of being recognized as jerks:

As you may have been notified, we've decided to cancel the Aftershock Kickstarter campaign...for now.

So what next?

While the campaign funded, the Deluxe Edition upgrades (and their associated costs) weren’t resonating with as many people as we had hoped. We are going back to the drawing board – rethinking how to give Aftershock its best shot at doing well. Our next step could be a revised Kickstarter with different reward levels and perks for backers, or perhaps we just go straight to retail.

In either case, we're still very excited about this game, and we're 100% committed to bringing it to you. Thank you to every one of our amazing backers. We really appreciate you coming out and showing your support.

We’ll be sure to update everyone with our new plans once they’ve been finalized.

Thank you so much for your support,

Stephen Buonocore, President - Stronghold Games

Oh, it had made about $24k off of 327 backers, which was funded, but in the world of Kickstarter funding is not enough...

Wow Stephen, being such a great businessman, I'm surprised that you haven't invested your own companies money into the project rather than everyone else's money.

Then you could have collapsed the project without all this shit publicity and actually put your money where your mouth is. You know, like a normal company.

I guess the company taking the risk rather than its own prospective customers is so 90's

So the relaunch wasn't exactly spotless. They copy and pasted the same verbiage from their Aeon's End KS, and we know that because they didn't add Aftershock's name into the templates. Then they lied about KS fees and refunds.

My experience with KS is so limited that I don't know what that last part means.

Kickstarter takes 5%. IB&C/Stronghold claimed it was 20% and won't refund the difference if you cancel your pledge.

So the standard 15% restocking fee for putting nothing back on a non-existent shelf. Nice scam. They should change their business model and become a bank with those practices.

So is this being Kickstarted because that's where the market is?

Doubt it. It's being Kickstarted because the margins are better and that's how Indie Boards and Cards do things. I seriously doubt Stephen would have Kickstarted this if Stronghold wasn't part of IBC now.

It's also marketing to distributors. It's timed so when they go to GAMA in March, the game has exposure and they can get orders, or at least commitments for orders.
