I didn't think the SSD would make the cut. I'm okay with that but I still want to see the real shit. Probably Q3 or somethin'.

This is an honest question: How many SSD's were there? Are they a rarity?
I guess what I'm wondering is if the ships represented here are the workhorses so to speak and the ones seen most often, not necessarily the ones that people want to play the most though.

Wookiepedia tells me the super star destroyers were incredibly rare.

I think the problem with using that size is that it reduces all the rebel ships to the point where detailed miniatures aren't really possible. The fundamental problem with scale seems to be the goofiness the Star Wars people approached everything. It seems impossible to have rebel ships at any level of detail and have a viably-scaled super star destroyer.

SSD's make the Great Pyramids look like a Lego project. I like the idea of just one (or a few) unique Flagship or whatever.

They should just make a gigantic play mat (3' x 4' or something out of interlocking tiles) that is a portion of the SSD. They could even have 3D sections for gun turrets, docking bays etc (almost like a heroquest board). Then all these other ships could just do battle over the SSD.

Yep, that's what I was thinking. Maybe take advantage of the box or insert as some chunk of a to-scale super star-destroyer. It's not like some pings from an x-wing will take it out--it'd be there for setting and game effect context.

BGGer at Gencon says fighter packs are 20 bucks each, while the Gladiator Star Destroyer (the one with the points in the picture above) is 30.

Picture up has B-wing, A-wing, and Y-wing squadrons, so we know they're already in.

Damn...I haven't paid much attention to the game but saw that CoolStuffInc has their pre-orders up for this. First wave comes in at $300 MSRP and a little over $200 on CoolStuff.

What I like about Star Trek: Attack Wing and X-Wing is that when I head up to the shop to game I can snag a ship a bag of chips and a pop for less than $20 and feel good for supporting my FLGS. And though I like the D&D:AW so far their packs at $25 have already given me pause...So Armada at $30-40 really has me weighing some things.

Yeah, close to $30 per ship from online places makes this on a no go for me. I'm bummed about that, but I just bought in to X-Wing.

That's the other thing...XWing is an easier game and is pretty approachable. Where Armada is getting the double whammy of being gamey and high prices. Honestly, I think players will be very hard to come by.

Could be. If they space the waves out then it might be managable but holy cow if they stick to the standard release sched. Not a lot of folks are going to be able to keep up.

So this thing is finally hitting the stores this month. Besides reviews pretty much all the info is out there. What do you guys think, months later?

For what it costs I remain apathetic but I'd gladly play someone else's set.

Wait and see... if it has rave reviews I might get into it but I'm trying to stop buying games for a while.
