GG, this game seems like the perfect overlapping Venn diagram between your favorite things and Ish's favorite things.

This bears the mark of truth. Ish has flipped her wig over this game.

Another game, in which the Freebeasts and the Wildbeasts came across each other in the woods, seeking the head of a necromantical fox.

She won and leveled herself up mainly by outfitting her team with Fearlessless vs my Badger, whose Fearful ability has a tendency to disarm any opponent.

Joey Condom, the squirrel, got ganged up on and walked away with a new limp.

Her raccoon walked away from unconsciousness unscathed, and with extra experience.

Anyway, this is mainly another excuse to post pics.

How complex are the rules compared to Song of Blades and Heroes?

They’re comparably complex, if not less so. Very much at the level of Frostgrave, except instead of using a bunch of modifiers on a d20, instead you just level up polyhedrals.

I keep seeing things about Frostgrave. I need to pass my saving throw on these miniatures games. B&B does look great. My wife loved the minis.

After seeing your minis and checking out the rules, I caved and bought the book. My daughter might actually play this one with me and I’m already cooking up some terrain. Plus, those minis would make a pretty great Frostgrave warband.

Oh good! It’s a great ruleset and the minis are utterly charming. I’m a curmudgeon when it comes to miniatures games, and this system just hits the spot for me. Glad you heard the good news, brother.

As for Frostgrave, I have some issues with the capriciousness of having everything depend on the role of a d20, but it’s fun nevertheless. It’s also a lot easier to proxy in miniatures and still stay within the mood.

I finished up my terrain, finally. I have some more pieces to make it expandable up to 4x4 and I’m still painting some wood fences up but I think it came out pretty good. I didn’t have any basic woodland/meadow stuff before so this should prove useful for lots of games.

Yeah, that stuff is GORGEOUS blatz.

Gosh, I do not do minis painting or have minis partners but this game is *still* super tempting. If I could paint I'd already be in (I have always had very shaky hands, diagnosed as just a harmless genetic tremor when I was in my teens).

So tell me about this game a little. Is this like a campaign game where you build your woodland squad like in necromunda? Or is it a one off skirmish game with clearly dillineated units w/assigned equipment?

Fine as a one off, but has a great campaign that’s worth doing. You receive regular XP thresholds and roll off for skills, you decide who does “labor” to improve the hideout and who goes off on little adventures to collect money and materials. Injured characters roll to see who has hamstrings or who dies. As with the game itself, mechanics are smooth and simple, and flavor is foregrounded. Games last about an hour.

Quick update to say I’ve built a few burrows to add to my badgers. Looking forward to painting these.
