AuZtralia is designed by renowned game designer Martin Wallace and thematically linked to his game A Study in Emerald. Wow. I just played Auztralia and it was not at all what I expected. I think it is really a tight little 4x game. You explore and expand by building out a network of train track), exploit by farming and mining so that you can get the resources you need to expand and purchase military units, and you exterminate wandering monsters that will trash your farms or block up your rail lines. It seems to me that the big difference between Auztralia and more traditional 4x games is that you can’t attack other players, which makes it more of a race to build the most farms and eliminate the most monsters as efficiently as you can.

I think I really this game. It’s not an epic game, but it Has tension and drama, and doesn’t take the entire afternoon to play.
