Time of Legends: Joan of Arc

I'd probably pick this up if I could get it at a decent price. I thought it looked neat, and having a bunch of 15mm fantasy figures would be cool.

This "retail-only" edition caused a minor kerfuffle during the KS. The Core Set that KS backers received was huge and in a rectangular coffin box. Mythic decided at some point to send the game to retail channels (which was originally supposedly up in the air), but the only way retail channels would touch it was including some sweetener content (because retailers are by now very aware that KS games at retail might as well be doorstops). So Mythic produced this smaller, square, "retail-only" core set, which does indeed have scenarios that the giant KS rectangular Core Set does not have. This ticked off the KS completionists and the FOMO types, who accused Mythic of trying to get more $$$ out of them at retail (after already spending plenty of $$$ during the KS) whereas Mythic insists the smaller box meant having fewer components, and thus needed new/different scenarios that would fit just what was in this new retail box.

I don't remember if Mythic agreed to make these new retail-only scenarios available on the website or not, so that the KS gotta-catch-em-all crowd would be placated.

Cry me a river, jeez. As if “backing” it entitles you to everything and locks the publisher into never improving or changing their product. It’s a couple of damn scenarios- one or two page setup docs. As if most backers will ever even play more than just the first two or three at the most anyway. Shows once again how KS feeds off FOMO and nerd entitlement.

Anyway, I’ll totally check this out now whereas before it was an expensive, enormous thing I wasn’t interested in.

Be careful with this one. If you check the forums, the Kickstarter version is riddled with errors. I believe almost every single scenario has some kind of issue, from using the wrong tiles in the image to not having complete rules for objectives.

Mythic is releasing updated scenarios every so often to fix these issues, and many of those have issues as well. You can find comments on BGG where backers have thrown in the towel and given up due to all of the issues in the rulebook and scenarios.

When I looked at the KS earlier, I really just wanted it for the minis.

I have never had this problem with the games I buy. It's the damnedest thing.
