I am in *exactly* the same situation. Even when they do work or whatever, they tend not to go well and I don't have the group for it. I'm still tempted but I just don't think I'll do it. So into there being no minis when the art is this fun.

I put this KSer news thing in because I think this thing does look completely rad, and I *love* that each player comes in with a squad they can combo with from the beginning rather than relying purely on equipment through development or comboing only happening via other players. I like to coordinate on bigger things in games but every single turn to do basic combos I find tedious.

Also, I wanted to call out Charlie Theel's cool work on his blog for this game, which brought it to my attention:

That's a really good blog post, though talking about how open things are for the overlord definitely is a red flag for me. It sounds like this falls squarely into the overlord as dm design camp that I hate. How to make the overlord player fun going all out, while also making the "hero" players fun while the overlord is going all out is really hard design.

Edit: tangentially related at best but now that I'm thinking about it, does anyone know of any one vs many abstract games?

I'm sending the pre-release copy I had to Michael, so expect coverage here at TWBG.
