New Matt Leacock joint. Very early returns were good in our house:

Liked it so much better than Wingspan, which I played again last weekend, it's hard to even contextualize the difference. I made key decisions. There were groanworthy dice rolls. There was a real progression to an end game state. Even with the point salad end I know where I lost the game.

Anybody else playing it? I'd imagine feelings would be real mixed around here, it's very light and without four players interaction is lowish.

The world’s first Roll & Build game! In Era - Medieval Age, each player rules over their domain. With every roll of the dice, players will continue to build their city while trying to avoid extortion, scorched earth, and disease

Never heard of it. Is it a city building game? How do the dice play in?

Sag, I think it's similar to Roll Through the Ages, but I've yet to play it. This one is high on my list to try out with the wife at BGG.Con. It's biggest detractor is cost to game weight ratio, but it's being reviewed quite well.

Yeah, it's a city builder. Supposedly an elaboration of roll through the ages, I haven't played that. You build a city for VPs. Resources you get every turn are mostly on dice faces, and building base level houses get you new dice with different faces, so you're building a dice pool engine for yourself. A whole menu of other available buildings give you special powers or VP multipliers/combinations, so that's where a lot of the game is. There are gray dice which are the aggressive dice which let you steal resources from other players. There's also a press your luck element of disasters which only gets worse the more dice you have, vaguely simulating the dangers of maintaing high population density.

As Cdennett said, people are mad about the price. It's pretty expensive for a light game (50 bucks online, 70 MSRP), but I don't know what money means to you. It didn't strike me as out of line but I get it.

Played it again today, still enjoying it.

Played three more times this evening. First two I ran through the buildings quick to undercut my spouse pretty hard for big wins---if you've ever read my posts you'll know she tends to play building games like some sort of Egyptian pyramid builder, interminably building all the biggest structures. She was frustrated, so we tried not taking out the one building from every pool that you pull out for the 2 player game.

I strongly recommend not doing this. It was an endless disaster game that didn't play right. Instead, we're going to try playing to 5 discs flipped till the end instead of 3 to lengthen the building a little. I'll report back on it.
