Resource management and deckbuilding seem ridiculously ill-suited for a Cowboy Bebop game. It's really a shame the way so many gamers got brainwashed by BGG over the years.

I disagree. The whole series is about being poor and scrabbling by. It's not the first theme you might think of but it's a really strong theme in the continuity of the show.

The characters may be bounty hunters by profession, but it’s not what I really think of the show being about.

The show is about this oddball group of people who happen upon each other. They learn together, they grow as a team and as a family unit (even if they are never really friends). Each has some personal humps to get over.

The characters are forever starving, and hustling for food and money — always one step away from not being in business any longer.

Bounty hunting is what they do for money, but it’s not what defines them.

An unthemed card game and a marketer walk into a bar . . .

I love Bebop and deckbuilding but I could not give two shits about this game. I’ve got my limit on pure deckbuilders with an IP slapped on it. Hardest of hard passes.

It doesn't look like a pure deck builder or a slapped on IP to me. Looks like they built a pick up and deliver game for the IP with deck building as a primary mechanic. It actually kind of looks like the Jasco Cowboy Bebop game, but in that one you have a set deck that you can't add to or improve.

Japanime Games actually does design good deck builders, although their themes tend to put me off, so I am interested in this one. I have the Jasco game, which is really good, but it is a coop and is more about the broader themes that n815e mentioned. I really like it, but I think it would also be fun to play a Cowboy Bebop game that it thematically lighter - just competitive bounty hunting.

You move from planet to planet and can use other players powers. That hardly elevates it beyond pure deckbuilder territory. I’m tired of braindead Ascension style deckbuilders.

I’m at the point with deckbuilders where I have to ask “Is it a pure deckbuilder? Is it as good as Aeon’s End? No? Pass. Is it not a pure deckbuilder? Is it as good as Tyrants of the Underdark? No? Pass.”

I respect that. I'm just an eternal optimist. If the game play is as good Tanto Cuore, but with a less offensive theme, I would totally be into it.
