Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)

Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× Welcome to one of the oldest board game communities on the Internet. That may sound like hyperbole but it really is true.

We are really happy to have you here. Unfortunately, being online we can't bond with you over a game so you'd know right away how happy we are to meet you. For now, you'll just have to take our word for it.

This site has always thrived on lively discussion and spirited but civil debate. We hope that newcomers here will find a welcoming atmosphere where game enthusiasts of all levels of experience and commitment will have something to add to the conversation. You never need to prove your “gamer cred” here. Whether you have been playing board games for a few months or a few decades; whether you have a huge collection or a small one; whether you have been a member here for years or just joined today – your opinion is valued here.

We know that it can be intimidating to jump into a new community and want to assure you that this is NOT the kind of forum where people will tell you that you posted something in the wrong place, or that you should have found an existing thread on the topic, or that you shouldn’t have resurrected an old thread.

So if you find a thread or an article discussion that interests you, whether it is old or new, feel free to jump in. Want to discuss a specific game or board gaming related topic just start a new topic. If you don’t know which forum to put it in, just make your best guess (we really don’t care all that much. It’s easy enough for a moderator to move it or merge it, if necessary).

A good place to get started is by introducing yourself in the “New Members Introduce Yourself” thread (below) or by telling us what you have been playing in the “What BOARD GAME(s) have you been playing?" thread ( therewillbe.games/forum/35-mos-eisley-ca...ave-you-been-playing ).

Have fun, and we look forward to hearing from you.

In an objective world Stone Age would be part of the NERP.

Well, Pete's version of Stone Age has caveman minis. One action is they can spear each other to death on Heroscape terrain.

Hi,

I've been lurking here for a while. I was attracted to the site by Michael Barnes' posts on 'what's wrong with modern euros'.

About me: Former climate change scientist, now a part-time SF-crime novelist and science journalist. Based in the UK. I got into gaming as a kid. Mum and I played loads of Heroquest, Rummikub, Battlemasters, Totopoly (which is actually a half-decent game) and Lost Valley of the Dinosaurs. I played a bit of Warhammer, but never got into it. It seemed to have too many rules and too much running away. I remember one miserable afternoon with my Imperial army fleeing like the blazes away from the nurgle. Cowards!

I returned to gaming via Magic the Gathering Worldwake in about 2010, but got out of Magic again because everyone my age had been playing for years and could beat me without breaking a sweat. Playing blue decks against 17-year-old newbies brandishing big green monsters is simply mean. You keep three land in hand and bluff them to death.

My gateway game was Descent: First Edition, which I saw in Forbidden Planet in London in 2011, and which reminded me of Heroquest for adults. It turned out to be a tactical combat game, which was fine too. From there, I bought Arkham Horror and Talisman.

Today we share a house with too many games and just enough cocker spaniels. I mainly game with two, but we also have several gamer friends and attend London on Board. I still enjoy gaming with my mum, the meanest TTR: Nordic player in the known universe.

Favourite pure euros: El Grande, Tigris & Euphrates, Stephenson's Rocket, Carson City, Euphoria: Build a Better Dystopia, La Citta, Finca, Thurn & Taxis, Bruges, Kingdom Builder, Castles of Burgundy, Dominant Species, Elfenland, Metropolys, Lord of the Rings (Knizia), Rattus, Konig von Siam, Race for the Galaxy, I'm the Boss, Sleuth.

Favourite pure Ameritrash: Chaos in the Old World, Nothing Personal, Cosmic Encounter, Eldritch Horror, Relic, Titan, Survive: Escape from Atlantis, Duel of Ages II, Tales of the Arabian Nights, The Doom That Came to Atlantic City, Lord of the Rings LCG.

Stuff that isn't really either: Yomi, BattleCON: War of Indines, Puzzle Strike, Blue Moon, Innovation, Impulse, Through the Ages: The Story of Civilisation, Krosmaster Arena, Pandante, Omen: Reign of War, Mage Knight, Eclipse, Clash of Cultures, Galaxy Trucker, Android Netrunner, Cyclades, Kemet, Ghost Stories, Sentinels of the Multiverse, Yedo, Eminent Domain, Ascension, Fantastiqa.

Bored senseless by: At the Gates of Loyang, Notre Dame, Macao, Trajan, Stone Age, Caylus, Nations, Village, Tzolk'in, Russian Railroads...

Howdy and welcome aboard Vee.

Just some clarifications: Heroscape for adults is officially known as Heroscape. Don't care what age you are it's just plain fun.

I'm the Boss I wouldn't really classify as a pure Euro. Any game that can end in an actual fist fight is something different.

Otherwise, a discerning taste in games. Omen...I haven't played that in quite a while...I really should.

Heroquest, not Heroscape. My goodness, you're making me feel old. Heroscape wasn't published when I was young :) And it was OOP and about £100+ a set by the time I got into gaming.

I'm playing some Heroscape for adults this weekend!

Welcome Vee. My gateway game was also Descent first edition. Now it sits there, under the basement stairs, out of sight. But I know it's there...

Hello

My name is Stu and I hate writing about myself so let's keep this brief.

I like games with spatial elements and simple resource structures, that encourage social interaction and that tell a story through mechanisms not words. (read: trains, light wargames, deduction, modern and traditional cards)
I dislike worker placement, deck building, resource conversion, efficiency. I think too many mediocre games are given a free pass.
I am here because the intelligent and forthright discourse on BGG has been pushed into so many little pockets that it's more effort to track than it is often worth.

I like to use big words without knowing what hey mean. I like to over-qualify my statements.

I promise to not write in this stupid style any more.

Sure can.
If you imagine me to be the spiritual reincarnation of Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake I'd be much obliged.

Hi, all. My name is John, and I'm an Englander living in Atlanta. I recently got back into board games after some years in the wilderness. I'm old enough to remember when DungeonQuest was Drakk Borgen, and I miss a lot of those games I left behind.

Atlanta? Where's that Barnes fellow to make nicey nice with the new guy?

Welcome to the Fort. There's a lot of douchebags here. And I mean that in the nicest way possible.
