So many thoughts about it...
-Dave Trampier is the MVP of this whole thing. His stuff is so good, so pathbreaking.
-I knew Trampier was good before I read the book, but I did not know Erol Otus as well. Also amazing stuff.
-It is really striking that once Wizards buys the company it is like... man, maybe we shouldn't just make every single character white or a woman without a shirt. I feel like it suggests the type of old boys club TSR must have been.
-what a disaster the 4th edition and to a lesser extent the Wizards 3.0 edition transition was in terms of art design. I've cooled quite a bit on the Elmore era or whatever, but at least it was iconic and interesting. The 2000s to 2010s stuff has not aged well at all.
I had a bunch of other stuff I thought while reading it but those were the first ones. Anyway, the book is really, really good, especially the first 3/4 of it.
