Top 10 Video Games Of All Time - Per Wikipedia

Interesting to see the games rated by crawling through all the reviews. Is there another site with a more accurate list? I guess ratings instead of sales would be what you'd measure.

My thoughts... I can play 8 of these 10 on my Wii U...and of those I've never played Chrono Trigger or RE4, so I'm in no rush for NX...

Without XCOM, Fallout (1 or 2), or Goldeneye, this list is fully bullshit.

those are PC games, this is a very console focused list, more than that its a very 90s list. I wonder if that reflects on their sample of publications more than the popularity or even the critical acclaim of these games.

Goldeneye is an N64 game. The list is received wisdom anyway.

I wouldn't slate FFVII on there, but the rest are all among the very best- and most timeless- games of all time. I wouldn't have this list without Symphony of the Night on it. And Metroid Prime.

But it is a pretty narrow list...and video games are like books or music now, there's no way to create a cohesive "of all time" list.

I am preordering an NX day one, bringing it home day one. Trust Nintendo. NX won't play the most games, but it'll play the best ones.

I haven't played any of these except for about an hour of FFVii, which was all I needed.

I didn't even have a console until the PS1. Never played any Nintendo games.

glad to see Metroid Prime not making this list. It makes all the lists typically. I find it, along with Ocarina of Time, to be very overrated. Doesn't mean they're not excellent.

So happy to see Resident Evil IV there (coming soon to Xbox One, btw) but I think it should be higher.

I would get rid of all the Super Marios, SoulCaliber and Uncharted II. I loved that they put Orange Box in there. I would very much like to see Resident Evil IV in that list. But this list is much closed to what I would consider a real top ten.

and those of you that haven't played RE4 (KEN!), get on it. I plan on replaying it for a tenth time this year.

Japanese console games are the best. Period. Especially in the 90s. That's why that list is 100% Japanese.

RE4 was in many ways a watershed moment for modern games. There are still games coming out pretty much every week that are deeply and unmistakably influenced by it. It is also kind of a game between eras because it is so very much a traditional Japanese style design, but the innovations were things that American designers completely ran with (and ran into the ground, like QTEs). It's still quirky, weird and awkward...but also very Hollywood and crowd-pleasing. If the list were "most IMPORTANT games ever made", it would be a top three title.

BB's list is a joke. I love Soulcalibur, but is it one of the "ten best" games of all time? That's where personal taste comes into play. Same with Uncharted 2, which shouldn't be anywhere near a list of "best" anything despite it being a solid story with good characters marred by endless murder and shooting.

I understand putting GTA _3_ on a "best of" list, the rest are iterative. It would be like putting Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the same top ten.

Orange Box at least has one good game on it- Half-Life. If the City-17 part of Half-Life 2 were its own game, it could be a contender. Pity about the rest of that piece of shit.

The mainstream isn't always wrong. Sometimes they get it right.

I think it's much easier to do top 10s by platform.

I've played all of them and all of them brough me much joy. One thing the list made me realize is that I would never be able to compile top 10 favourites list myself. It's just I've played so many games that I don't even remember the highlights. I guess the nostalgia factor of the first experience of things like River Raid or SMB is the only thing that still keeps them from falling into the deep pit of my alzheimer.

The link to wikipedia goes much deeper than top 10...I just included 10 here for brevity. A lot of the games mentioned (Goldeneye, Metroid Prime, Half-Life, Fallout, etc) are on the linked to 'all time' list.
