Artifact

You guys been following this at all? Garfield created, DOTA2 based. I've watched a couple games and these two pictures from rock, paper, shotgun sum up the game for me:

Complicated as fuck, just like the game it's based on and with a very tight move timer. I'm not that interested in online card games but I enjoy reading all of your takes on them, curious if you all have tried it.

Haven't. Most I know about it is that Kibler was talking about trying it out.

looks AWFUL

I would give it a try because it a cardgame by Garfield but it seems destined to fail. It's pretty much like paper Magic in that it's a paid game where each additional pack must be paid for and that it has a big focus on trading.

I do like the effect they put where the cards look like they have actual weight to them

I've had it for a while now. Playing drafts (free arena!!!) is a blast and the game gives you a lot to think about. It's not enjoyable to watch unless you know what's going on, much like the game it takes its theme from. There are way more actual decisions in the game than some other online alternatives.

Very interesting review. I tend to like waypoint, even though it can get too navel gazy for *me*. Recognizes the fundamental quality of the design but spends a lot of time talking about the interesting ways that Artifact mirrors Valve's larger shift to being a rent collecting market maker.

Well, they patched in a progression grind so maybe some of the people who need that will give the game another shot.
