Apex Legends

hotseat brought this game up in the video games played thread so I wanted to follow it up. I just downloaded it and haven't had a chance to play, but I got halfway decent at Titanfall 2 (unfortunately for me, I was best in the titan!) and think Respawn have simply the best game feel for FPS.

Any of you playing? Any tips? What platforms are you on? I'm playing it on PS4.

I'm on PC. General tips:

1. the SMGs seem pretty weak, currently. Use a shotgun at close range
2. Unless you have a sniper rifle, long range is probably not going to take anyone down
3. Respawn stations are single use
4. the color of the damage numbers coming off of people you shoot indicates the level of their armor
5. seems obvious, but don't forget your character's power, and learn how fast it recharges. This varies.
6. Don't forget to use your knockdown shield!

My general impressions of the current roster:

1. Wraith - good for a more advanced user; I think her abilities are trickier to use successfully. Also apparently you can see where she is running when she is in the rift
2. Gibraltar - good intro character, don't forget to use his defensive bubble liberally
3. Lifeline - best intro character and arguably best all-around character. It's great to be able to revive faster
4. Bloodhound - my current favorite; his ultimate really makes it easy to target other players, and seeing their footsteps is super handy
5. Caustic - behind a paywall but you can earn enough coins to unlock him. I haven't done that yet. He seems great for late game since he can do area control with his toxic gas. Much more effective in buildings
6. Mirage - also behind a paywall. I don't think too many people will be fooled by his holograms
7. Pathfinder - his grapple is pretty cool, and the zipline can be handy too.
8. Bangalore - my second favorite. Her smoke cloud is fantastic for escapes. It's the best smoke I've seen in a FPS.

Titanfall smoke was really good too.

The handy part about Mirage is that you can scout areas by sending out a clone. It does let people know your general direction, but they give up their position by shooting at it. The ultimate is trickier to use, but it gives you stealth.

A friend recommended it to me and I downloaded it on my PC but my system is pretty old and I keep crashing to the desktop at the load screen.

Too bad.

Played maybe 5-6 matches today. Really solid but ultimately it just made me want to pop in Titanfall 2. We even won a match!

That said, the respawn mechanic really pushes the genre forward and the excellent speechless ping options make playing with randos tolerable at all. I don't consider rando teams almost even playable in PUBG or fortnite.
