I just played this little flash game...[url]http://www.channel4.com/history/microsites/0-9/1066/game/index.html[/i]. Kind of boardgamey, and surprisingly fun.

It's kind of awesome for a flash game. The taunting mechanic is hilarious.

Is this the game that was released with the TV show Battlefield Britain in the UK? That was excellent television. I never got the chance to try the games on the web site.

Sag.

No, it isn't. Battlefield Britain was a BBC show, whereas this is from Channel 4. I had no idea there was a Battlefield Britain game - google awaits.

Did you catch the sequel, 20th Century Battlefields, as well? As good, if not better.

There was a two part Channel 4 docu-drama called "1066: Battle for Middle Earth". I have it recorded but still have to watch it. It sounded strange like about peasants living during 1066, which is supposedly the last time England was invaded. I have no idea why 1688 doesn't count.

I had a go with the flash game. I was about to beat the first battle on my third attempt when internet explorer crashed to a slow grinding halt.

Because that invading force had an invitation from much of the great and the good in the country.

I think it is very much a case of history being written by the victors. The Glorius Revolution was an invasion by 50 ships and 20,000 men. There were two major battles. London was pretty much under marshall law for over a year. I think Brittish patriotism, that is a desire to say we haven't been invaded for nearly 1000 years combined with strong anti catholic prejudice, has kept that version of history alive. William of Orange was invited but I understand it was a group some of whom were within parliment not a parlimentary vote.
