And just to update the story:

The Standard Edition game price was updated to $49.99, down from $59.99; and the Premium Edition is now listed at $69.99, down from $79.99. The Standard Edition is scheduled for August release, with the Premium Edition arriving in September.

There's a whole lot of hocus pocus talk to the promo, followed by one sentence at the end describing the game -- "In true Eurogame fashion, use strategy to score the most victory points and emerge victorious." Still pretty vague.

That said, the land of Dominaria is clearly filled with adventure and excitement, so how can you say no?

It's that time of year. We get vague announcements, and then the big reveal at (usually) GenCon.

Sounds like a cynical cash grab that will fail. This isn't the first time that somebody has tried to extend the Magic brand in hopes of establishing another cash cow. But Magic players tend to have a singular focus on their lifestyle game, and games like this don't seem to offer much to people who love designing decks and playing them. After the dismal failure of Heroscape Magic, they are hoping that a eurogame will be more popular, but it's still going to fail for the same reasons.

Cynical cash grab or a wild swing for the fence? You give some disjointed bits and pieces to a couple of junior employees and tell them to take a shot at it. Might work, might not, if you don't spend too much it's worth the chance at another big hit. Meanwhile you start developing employees.

Watching a lot of guys strike out becomes tedious after a while.
