santa.jpgHere's something that shows that even scientists don't always pay attention:

Proof that Santa can't exist

Clearly, these scientists are delusional. When I was a kid, I would go to sleep Christmas Eve, and wake up Christmas morning. Boom, lots of presents under the tree.

I guess these "scientists" would have me believe that Mommy and Daddy were the ones leaving the presents. While a preposterous notion, this would explain the time I got up in the middle of the night one Christmas Eve to discover Mommy wrestling intensely with Santa Claus as he yelled "HO! HO! HOOOOOOOO!"

I...uh...I think it's time to cleanse the palate of the mind with a healthy dose of News.

TwilightCreationsLogo.jpgDeadlands: the Weird West

Twilight creations has announced that they will be releasing a boardgame version of Deadlands.

From the Pinnacle Entertainment Group Website :

The year is 1876, but the history is not our own.

Deadlands, a horrific journey into the "Weird West". Mysterious beings called the Reckoners have given life to monsters and magic, causing history to divert from July 4th, 1863 forward. The South has won its independence, California has shattered into a labyrinth of flooded sea-canyons, and a mysterious super-fuel called "ghost rock" has spawned as much war and strife as it has "steampunk" devices.

Players are steely-eyed gunfighters, card-slinging sorcerers called hucksters, mysterious shamans, savage braves, mad scientists, and more who battle against evil and attempt to prevent the "Reckoning".

    daytheearthstoodstill.jpgEarth Standing Still Today

Today sees the debut of The Day the Earth Stood Still, a remake of the sci-fi classic.  The new version looks to be pretty effects heavy and stars Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly.  From what I can gather from the trailer, these aliens don't want to obliterate Earth--just us.

Keanu plays an seemingly emotionless alien/robot--which should be a real stretch for him.  He also appears to be the alien vanguard who has a change of heart, so look for some high-quality INTERSPECIES DRAMA~!  (If I were an alien and saw Jennifer Connelly, I'd probably have a change of heart too.)

    television.jpgBOOB TOOB

In a sort of "give the finger to Conan O'Brien" move, NBC has decided to give Jay Leno a prime time slot instead of allowing him to move to another network.  Yay, we can get more super-tame jokes about Michael Jackson earlier in the evening than ever....Brian Fuller's first episode on Heroes will be #19; in other Heroes news John Glover, aka Lionel Luthor from Smallville has been cast as Sylar's father in an upcoming episode...Survivor wraps up this week, and holy hell how many of these have there been?!?

    Battlestar: Galactica update:

-- final episodes of BSG begin 16 Jan and end 20 Mar 2008

-- a spin-off "Caprica" has been given the green light by the Sci-Fi Channel; includes two-hour pilot and an additional 18 episodes; set a half century earlier than the current series
-- stand-alone movie "The Plan" airing sometime after the series finale and set in the time frame between the first and second seasons (already shot)
    -- 10 webepisodes (already shot)

(Thanks to David Knepper for posting this to our local gaming mailing list.)

    More Heroes Ranting:

This past week's episode "Our Father" may have been more of a personal tipping point than even the episode that preceeded it.

The Sylar thing has me so pissed I may not go back. What a waste of time all of that turned out to be!

-The Hunger? Learning how to abate it? Doesn't matter. He's evil and back to slicin'.

-Learning how to empathetically take powers? Doesn't matter. He's evil and back to slicin'.

-Elle's redemption and love story? Eh, Sylar's evil now and kills her.

-Sylar's future, where he's redeemed? Doesn't matter now, he's an evil killer again. Remember, that was a WHOLE EPISODE they devoted to that!

-Sylar and his brotherly relationship with Peter? Nope, not real.

-The big reveal of Angela being Sylar's mother? Nope, a trick.

-Sylar, company man? Waste of time.

It's almost as bad as Bobby Ewing being in the shower. So many pieces of this season have turned out to be an absolute waste of time.

Who's booking this shit? Where people just act however they want from week to week, and the "payoffs" are weakshit go-nowhere circle jerks?

I'll watch next week because I'm stupid and slavish, but the holiday break may be good enough for me to shake the habit for good. Screw this show, man.
       Rant over.

summer_glau_1.jpgAnd Now For Nicer Thoughts:  Sarah Connor Chronicles

Talk about a show on an opposite trajectory as Heroes...T:SCC started off fairly good but mostly uneven but continues to get better and better with each episode.  This week's episode "Alpine Fields" did a fantastic job layering a story together, weaving in narratives from different times remarkably well.  And these storylines did a great job tying themselves all together as it bounced back and forth between the current situation where a woman lay dying, trying to give birth; a flashback to how she ended up in this situation; and a future story with Derek Reese making a grisly discovery.

December 15th is the episode they're billing as the "fall finale" before their winter hiatus, where the show will slide into its new Friday night slot.
