Matt Tolman with his new design Undermining wins Canadian Game Design of the Year Award for 2011.

Calgary, Alberta - On October 15, 2011, the FallCon Gaming Society awarded its second Canadian Game Design Award to Matthew Tolman for his design, Undermining. The announcement was made at FallCon, the premier boardgaming and miniatures convention in Canada. As part of the award, Matt was awarded a custom crafted plaque commemorating the design award, a $200 cash prize, from both Valley Games and Panda Games Manufacturing, both sponsors also each kicked in a $500 signing/publishing bonus.

The FallCon Gaming Society extends heartfelt congratulations to Matthew in a deserving win among a crowded list of excellent Canadian designs.

The FallCon Gaming Society is the host organization for FallCon ( www.fallcon.com) and the official sponsor of the Canadian Game Design Award. After 24 years of success running boardgaming conventions and events in Alberta, the FallCon Gaming Society wanted to further contribute to the hobby by helping Canadian game designers and their brand new designs gain greater recognition. With this in mind, the Society launched an annual Canadian Game Design Contest that would highlight and eventually foster homegrown Canadian talent in game design. Twenty three designs were submitted in 2011, with entries from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Quebec.

While the award is meant to attract and highlight Canadian game design talent, the Society was also adamant about maintaining a 100% Canadian focus throughout the award process. All aspects of the award process were entirely Canadian-based. The Canadian Game Design logo, proudly showing the maple leaf, was designed by Canadian graphic artist and game designer Gavan Brown. All rules evaluators and game judges were recruited from a pool of Canadian game experts from across the country. Canadian publishers were also involved in a sponsorship capacity.

Entries for the 2012 Canadian Game Design Award will be accepted until Jan 31, 2012. Interested parties should visit the following webpage for more information: http://www.fallcon.com/design.
