Tom and Sam posted a review of this yesterday giving it 11 thumbs up, which I think is their highest rating ever. This seems to make some pretty cool changes to the Descent system, particularly the alternating activations as opposed to Descent's I go, you go. I'm curious to see how the game master having information the characters don't effects replayability in the core story missions. Honestly it looks like it might be great with 2.
I think I'm in for this one. If my group won't take to it, which I think they will, then my two boys age 6 and 3 will. I've already got them playing Carcassone, Dixit, Rampage and King of Tokyo. And they seem to know what Star Wars is even though I haven't sat them down to watch it. I can't wait till there a bit older and they can grasp these more complicated games. Weekends will never be the same!
Came to the same conclusion this morning and pre-ordered base + chewie and han. My boy of six loves the original trilogy - and fell alseep during 1 - 3 prequels (made me proud )
If you want to get this ASAP Scissors be careful about that pre-order. Chewie + Han don't come out until January/Feb but the base game comes out in November. So your order may be held up by Chewie/Han if you ordered online.
I think this game has caused me to lose sleep. I get to thinking, yeah, I'mma get Imperial Assault...but then I think no, I really don't want a 3-4 hour campaign-focused dungeoncrawl game regardless if it's SW or not. And I don't really like Descent at all, in any of its versions or expansions.
I'd actually be more interested in the skirmish game, believe it or not...but then I find that I'd rather it be a simpler, D&DAS type game. Or Dungeon Command Star Wars.
I want this, but then I don't. I really don't want to get into the little packs and all that. But it looks great, and I know my gang would LOVE it. They all like Descent. *shrug*.
So I dunno, I'll probably wind up with it, give it a shot. Will probably sell Galaxy Defenders when I'm through with the campaign to fund it. But then I might very well turn around and flip IA if it isn't just completely freaking great.
I dunno man, my gang still takes three hours on it...90 minutes is really kind of my upper limit for this kind of game. Two if the conversation is good and there's drinks.
I'll be curious to hear what people think of the skirmish game as I've been thinking about trying out a Necromunda campaign but using tiles as a Dudes in a Hall style game. And if that's fun, maybe prototyping it into it's own campaign style skirmish dudes in a hall game.
Just to tell you guys, that even if that some factors kill the game for me, it is a very, very good game. It's just that lately I've been having some really weird requirements.
I skimmed the skirmish rules and they look like the core system but without the overlord junk, head to head with activation card play.. No threat, spawning shit around the corner, four players endlessly counting squares and all that. I think I might can get with that. Now to find something to fund it, it is big bucks...and it just won't do to have part of it...
I'm thinking I'm less likely to pick this up now. I've been exploring how I feel about overlord dungeon crawls and I feel like I always always always prefer co-ops. I'm considering dumping the ones I've got, picking up one for $70 is looking less likely, and I'm cool with that.
The skirmish mode would be appealing if single models weren't 7 bucks.
Two things sold this for me. Well, three because I see "Star Wars" on a board gaming product and lose my damn mind.
- Skirmish rules that look pretty good - Hints of a solo AND co-op option in the near future based on the success of similar modules for Descent
Truth be told, I'm more interested in skirmish- really not that into a big, long campaign thing right now but who knows, the Hellfire Club might flip for it and we're in it every week. I'm kind of wondering if I can't just proxy up whatever I want from the old SW minis game. Or even some Epic Duels figs. Or maybe even playing Epic Duels on the Imperial Assault boards. I just thought of that...huh...
