What VIDEO GAME(s) have you been playing?
I'm also about 2/3 of the way through the Phoenix Wright Trilogy on 3DS. I've been playing a storyline, leaving it alone for a couple months, then coming back for another storyline. It's a good game for that sort of play. The only thing that bothers me is some of the clues and objections you need to raise to "win" are pretty opaque. I started having a walkthrough open for when I get stuck, because really I enjoy the story more than being clever in this game.

Honestly, I don't think you are.wadenels wrote: I've gotten about 12 hours into Pokemon Alpha Sapphire for 3DS and I think I'm pretty done with it. I've never played a Pokemon title before and I don't really get the appeal. Collecting Them All isn't that interesting, the battles aren't particularly interesting, and the story is uninteresting. Am I missing something?
I mean, I don't think I'll ever be able to judge the Pokémon series in an objective manner given how I grew up with it but it's true it has parts that are just...pretty uninteresting actually. The actual combat system works very well and it's a fun CCG-like game in multiplayer but as a single player game the non-existent enemy AI and filler trainers do make it quite boring. And it's true that collecting is often a matter of going somewhere and grinding more than anything fun. Part of this is rooted in the series
Still, you should keep in mind that Ruby and Sapphire were made after the original creator left the series and many of the things that made Pokémon special went out with him. The silly, Final Fantasy-esque plot of evil teams that try to increase/reduce the landmass of the planet is nothing like the mundane mafia of the first two games and the Pokémon themselves were made cuter and less monster-like. I feel that once Tajiri left, newer designers were worried about making a new Pokémon game instead of a cool game in which you catch monsters and fight with them.
I also don't think it's a great game to play alone, a huge part of the series is sharing stuff with others. On your own you would never have guessed that Haunter can only evolve through trading or that Magikarp can evolve into one of the best monsters in the game. But someone might out of sheer chance and he would tell others so there was this constant interexchange of information about the game. If you have heard of it, this aspect of Pokémon is heavily inspired by the Tower of Druaga which Tajiri was a big fan of, to the point of writing strategy guides for Game Freak back when it was a magazine.

I remembered that I had Civilization 4 from a Humble Bundle, so I dusted that off and played a couple rounds last week. My experience is very limited, so at this step I'm just playing at the lowest difficulty and experimenting with the victory conditions. But it's the kind of game I could basically play for the rest of my life, so I'm going to try to get in a couple more games this week. It's unbelievably engrossing.

The first game I played last week was during my son's naptime, and he overslept because I got so engrossed in the game. The second game was started at like 10:30 PM, and I said, I'll play for an hour. I finally ended the game at 1 AM. I'm specifically trying to limit how much I play in a week, because holy crap, I'm not sure I'd do much else if I didn't.

I much prefer TBS as well. It's probably my favourite game type but those games above wrecked my free time.
Age of Wonders II, Warlords I, Lords of the Realm II (mix of TBS and RTS) and Civilization Revolution probably took the most hours of those genres

I am still making my way through Witcher 3 and enjoying every sarcastic line of Geralt's. I find it quite impressive that the designers captured the body language of someone with his attitude towards the requests of stupid peasants so well.
I bought Warhammer Quest during a recent Humble Bundle and, surprisingly, I am enjoying it.

Rayman Legends is still shrinkwrapped, I need to bust that out. It's been all Halo V lately.

Of course there's another release tomorrow too. I can't decide whether to play Fallout 4 on my aging PC or on the PS4. The PS4 is great, but I remember sorting through uncountable piles of junk in Fallout 3 and I can't imagine how much of a hassle that would have been with a vidya controller instead of mouse and keyboard.

I was planning on making next year's project to play through all three Witcher games. However, there's been a development that means around mid-next year, my game time is likely to take a nose dive, so I'll be bumping the start of that project up to "as soon as I'm done with MGS." Which means Fallout is going to have to wait a while. At least it's keeping up my tradition of only playing Bethesda games several years after they release. One of these days, I might even start Skyrim!

River and Scarlett have been playing it since they were 4 and 3, respectively. It totally accommodates small children. At first, they spent a lot of time in the bubbles or asking me to pick them up, but they've gotten to where they can clear levels. They still run right past tons of stuff, but they can actually complete them. When it first came out, we had a lot of fun especially on the dinosaur ride on the river, they LOVED that and it was really well implemented, how everybody controls it. We actually played that level again Sunday per Scarlett's special request.
River tried to play Mario 64, but it wasn't nearly as easy for him to grasp as SM3DW.
I actually think- after a lot of soul searching- that SM3DW is the best Mario game. It's at least as good as 3, SMW, and Galaxy.
