What VIDEO GAME(s) have you been playing?
My 14 year-old self ran a BBS with Trade Wars, played the crap out of that game there and on a few other sites. My favorite story of that game was when my friend and I were getting creamed on another BBS, and we ended warping our last planet out before it got taken out. It was fun trying to survive.Black Barney wrote: That's exactly how 13- year old Black Barney would play TradeWars over BBS back in the day. 2,400baud modem ftw

OK, I take back that DS2 is indisputably the worst Souls game, because it is obviously being disputed. It is the most un-soul-like game and arguably the worst.in the series. Which haven't precluded me from sinking hundreds of hours into it or enjoying it, it is just that I don't recommend it as your entry point in DS.
Actually, this is most enjoyable in co-op, in particular if you have a friend (I went through about 60% of it with a buddy, and it felt a lot like a classic D&D adventure). But even if you don't, I recommend co-oping the shit out of it.

I really love the exploration in this. The constant danger and deadliness of it makes it so much more exciting than the typical button mash fest. Whenever I get into a new area I'm constantly on guard. I love that.
So there's this part where you climb a ladder and this knight on a griffon swoops out of the sky. I totally shit my pants and fled the scene. I came back later to fight him and he wasn't there! Did I fuck up? I could find the answer online but I'm trying to avoid other spoilers. But this one is bugging me.

But, of course, it all depends on how many people are playing, which brings me back to the point that DS2 is not the best souls, and this means you'll probably find less fellow players on-line.
Being on guard all the time is a common theme to all souls games. I don't think I've ever lowered the shield in my first 100 hours
And, once you get it, it makes everything else pale in comparison.
You're doing right by avoiding spoilers, that's the most enjoyable way to play (I really, really regret having resorted to guides in the first two games). BUT, go on-line. The whole exploration aspect is heightened by the messaging system. So you avoid reading guides, but you DO read messages left by other players and leave your own messages.
That guy you mention is fine, nothing is fucked-up. Just keep going.
Just keep in mind, if it gets too frustrating for you or you get the sense that the level design is off, or some encounters feel completely unfair, that other souls games don't have these issues.

Also finished the demo for Resident Evil VII. I got the bad ending and then I got the infected ending. I deleted it immediately because my nerves can't take me going into that goddamn basement one more time. Really scary stuff, well done. Much more P.T. than Resident Evil, I'm not sure what they're trying for. I was scared out of my mind.

Google Earth VR - this is pretty amazing. You can traverse the planet pretty quickly, looking down on all sorts of stuff. Certain areas are modeled with crude 3D buildings, trees, etc.
The Lab by Valve - this is the showpiece of the Vive, consisting of several small demos that test various aspects of the Vive. I have not looked at everything yet, but so far:
The solar system demo is neat, and it's very disconcerting to find yourself "standing" directly next to the Sun. I held the Earth in front of me, and it appeared to be the size of a golf ball. A very, very tiny Mercury zipped by on its orbit.
The Secret Shoppe - this is basically a demo showing off the ability to look all over a space, and there are various events that trigger in order to startle you, but I always seemed to not be looking where they wanted me to be looking when these events happened.
Slingshot - you get to launch balls in order to knock over boxes in a warehouse. Not bad.
Archery - this is the highpoint for me, so far. You are a castle defender on the ramparts of a castle that looks like it came straight out of Heroscape, including the hex terrain. You make archery motions to shoot invaders. It was awesome.

It is crazy how easily your brain is fooled by these devices.
