Avatars: Are they who they seem to be?
I was gonna go with a manly dude this time, an actor, but... I am eventually going to come back to good ol' Summer. I just resent anyone thinking I have it up for ME to drool over
She's a robot guys, remember?

Technically, no. That's actually a picture of the Volvo S40 D4. We have the S40 T4. But I couldn't find a picture of a black T4.

I definitely associate people with their avatar and feel totally disoriented when they change it.

It's awesome 'cause it's always "Shaft's" theme music being played.clockwirk wrote: So everything he says is accompanied by a drum and bugle corp.

....that's exactly what I thought it was as well, now that's been ruined.

Yea but then you would be fucked like me. When I chose "Egg Shen" as my handle I pretty much had to have a picture of the character from Big Trouble in Little China. I guess I could choose different pictures of Egg Shen, but I'm fine with the one I have now.
Also, I hope my avatar doesn't make you guys think that I'm Chinese. Or that I know Chinese black magic...or that that I've ever seen the black blood of the Earth. You'd be disappointed to know that I'm a pretty normal, late 20 something white guy......

mads b. wrote: I hate when you change your avatars. Makes me think that you're all new guys which of course means I give your posts less credit. And, scissors, having a hot girl as an avatar means that people actually read what you're saying. Now, not so much.
Well, I generally don't like it when people change avatars. But some are just too plain and don't have any force of personality behind them. Some suggestions, however for people who change avatars.
Make it a person: As human's we tend to gravitate towards humans more than ideas or interests. It seemingly personalizes the tone of your posts through the lens of your avatar "personality". Take Clockwork for example: He usually has some great posts but his avatar is absolutely drab, so I find myself sometimes passing over them because I can't get a sense of the personality behind the post.
Make it identifiable: Kingput just redid his avatar to Rain Man. A great idea in conception. But because the image of the rain man guy is comparably small, I couldn't recognize who it was until he told us. To make sure your avatar personality makes a statement, it has to be a clear representation of the caricature.
Don't make it too dark: Scissors has yet another new avatar... but I can't make it out well, because it is too dark. So therefore not impactful.
Make sure it captures the personality of the character: Black Barney's old Richard Simmons, for example, captures Richard in all of his innate craziness. His new Richard Simmons avatar captures him in a passive wave. The new avatar, even though it is the same person, has completely lost the character's energy which was so effective before.
Longevity: When you have a great avatar, don't change it. It becomes more powerful over time. See Michael Barnes avatar, as an example. But when your avatar has passed its time, or is lame, change it sooner rather than later. Ken B. just had one of the biggest upgrades of his avatar on F:AT. Even though his old avatar had longevity, the change was overdue. And now, he has an awesome new avatar. The old Guitar Hero avatar was just dated and lame-o. Another problem with "interest" based avatars, by the way. They just become dated.

I've always been of the "I'll change it whenever I feel like fucking changing it" school. And that's as much energy as I can muster for the topic, either here or at any other site. I've just got bigger stuff on my plate than tiny avatars at niche gaming sites.

Eliteist. ; ) No wonder you're avatar is a crest.

Hey, maybe I want to be judged by the content of my posts and not the color of my avatar. MLK would be so proud!
