Battlestar Galactica – Starship Battles
Game Information
Ares Games will be unveiling their tabletop miniature combat game, Battlestar Galactica – Starship Battles, at Gen Con, with a later release of the starter set expected in December of 2018
Battlestar Galactica – Starship Battles will use a unique game system, inspired by Wings of Glory and Sails of Glory mechanics, but new features patterned on the shows’ space combat. Special bases for the ships are used to support the new game mechanics
The starter set will include two Colonial Mk. II Vipers and two Cylon Raiders, and everything needed to play a number of scenarios. One of the Vipers in the starter set will be Apollo's with his special markings and pilot cards
Space Ship Packs are expected in 2019, and will include both standard ships as well as pilot specific ships, such as Starbuck and Scar, which will have special markings, and special pilot and skill cards

I want to see how they handle damage. I hate chit pull. I want cards.

That could be good, actually.

Yeah, that really captures what made space combat cool in the show as well, at least the newer version. It certainly sets it apart from something like X-Wing, at first glance.

Probbaly why I don't do miniatures games then, that proce my be close to £50 when it hits UK shores so definitely won't be looking at it unfortunately.

I saw the reference to Scar and to named-pilot ships, but while a base sounds kind of cool, this seems to have pretty short legs. Of course, to my far-from-expert eye, most of the Sails of Glory ships look the same, too, and there are three or four large waves of those (and at least many of the early Wings of War minis were just repaints of the same model).
It looks to me like you are correct. The models of the named ships are the same as the standard, but have "markings" (i.e. slightly different paints), and come with special named pilot cards.

It's tough for you UK folks. At online discount the starter set will be like $35 in the states, which makes it a little more reasonable.

Thanks. Just to be clear, I wasn't be critical of anything, just noting that as a potential "mine" for content, BSG is somewhat surprisingly thin for ship models given the lack of differentiation (which ties into the theme but makes getting a bunch of different minis less attractive--to me at least).

Sounds like a positive feature.
Standalone, it’s basically 6 enemy types, seven if you add the civvy transports:
Battlestar
Basestar
Viper
Raider
Raptor
Cylon Heavy
I’m wondering how they’ll do capitals because that is a big part of BSG...but waaaaaaaay out of scale. I mean, a Battlestar isn’t really possible in this game unless the fighters are the size they are in Armada.
That part looks pretty interesting. I’ll be curious to see how much it adds to game play.
