Here's a pic from the folks at RebelScum.com at the 2009 Toy Fair. Looks like a Clone Wars Epic Duels is on the way?

It does look like a new version...I've never played the old one, but if it is cheap enough, I'd love to give it a try. Heck, my son likes the new Clone Wars series...so he'd be into it.

(Not too many new games (or old ones) that I'm eager for...Ed Beach's sequel to Here I Stand is what I'm looking forward to in the long, long distance, though.)

I completely lost interest in everything Star Wars about 25 years ago, when I was brutally disappointed by The Return of the Jedi. However, a couple of friends managed to persuade me to try Epic Duels, and it was great! We played all afternoon, game after game. I've been interested in buying my own copy, but it's difficult to find one for a price that isn't insane (like $90 or more). It makes sense that somebody would finally revive the license and try to get some of that cash. If they did a good job on this new edition, I will definitely buy it.

I played Epic Duels maybe twice about 5 years ago, before I got back into gaming. I liked it quite a bit! I wish I had gone out and gotten my own copy back then because though I liked it I won't pay the price it's going for today.

The new version though? I dunno. I liked the classic characters available in Epic Duels (Han, Luke, Vader, Boba Fett) and I was kinda meh on the new characters (Anakin, Padme, Darth Maul). The new Clone Wars stuff is growing on me though.

Wasn't there a Transformers game that was basically a rethemed Epic Duels and nobody bought it?

Well, Shellhead, you could always get the Transformers Epic Duels if you're not really into the Star Wars license.

It figures I just traded 2 Wallace games (Brass and Empires of the Ancient World) to get Epic Duels and Thebes. Both of the Wallace games were collecting dust but I could have traded for something pretty good for Brass.

I got a copy cheap off eBay last year because i got told the same - just that the name (plus the plastic transformers) has made it hard to get it out .... shit, even my 10yr old lad isn't interested.

If I need to choose between the two licenses, I would choose Star Wars. The first two movies (meaning episodes 4 and 5, I guess) were entertaining enough.

Is it the same game? I got EPIC DUELS in a math trade not too long ago and mine says ages 8+, this one has a big 6+ on it. Did they tone it down? What does the TRANSFORMERS EPIC DUELS say?

I think the Transformers one is also 8+. There's not really any details on the game pictured. Just the picture.

I got a few details on this:

Designer is Craig van Ness. The expected age is 6+. The focus is on single combat, and there has been a lot of effort burned to reduce the number of dead cards in your hand.

Single combat? So there won't be 8 characters running around blasting and hacking each other?

That's rumor, anyway.

It would explain the 6+. I'd bet that the multiplayer rules could be edged back in.
